The International Working Group on Rotational Seismology (IWGoRS) intents to promote, plan and share scientific investigations covering all degrees of freedom of the seismic wave field by extending conventional translational recordings with observations of strain and rotations. These additional observables, enabled by new instrumentation have implications for many fields that build on ground motion observations such as earthquake physics, seismic tomography, earthquake engineering, building vibrations, planetary and ocean bottom seismology, volcanology, and others. IWGoRS also deals with rotational motions of Earth using ring laser technology.

IWGoRS furthermore intends to share experience, data, software, and results in an open Web-based environment. IWGoRS disseminates information on all matters pertaining to rotational motions through publications and by holding special sessions and workshops. For information how to join see below.
